A philosophical theory of ethics outlined by
the philosopher Jeremy Bentham and developed
by John Stuart Mill. According to
utilitarianism, an action is morally right if
it has consequences that lead to happiness,
and wrong if it brings about the reverse.
Thus society should aim for the greatest
happiness of the greatest number.
